Learning to pivot and shoot will get you a lot of extra buckets under the rim.

Recap: Catch and Shoot Requires that You Understand Pivoting!

    1. Forward Pivot - is when you pivot or spin around with your face facing the rim. Remember the pivot foot cannot move from its spot, but you can push off on the free foot to create the spinning motion. This allows you move around w/o wasting your dribble, to get a better look at the rim.

    2. Reverse Pivot - is when you drop step your free foot directly behind you and spin on both feet at the same time backwards. This is like putting a car in reverse and backing up, only you can't move your pivot foot unless you dribble first or it’s a walking violation.

    3. Jump Stop & Pivot - is when a player lands on both feet at the same time. This allows the player to establish which foot will be their pivot or spinning foot. Once the pivot foot is established, it cannot be switched unless the player begins to dribble.
